Portcullis House

Portcullis House atrium originally built in 2000 and had been beset with mechanical problems when attempting to open the diamond shaped glass roof vents. We were approached to resolve this issue.

In October 2015, we were asked if we could find a solution to the ongoing difficulties involved when opening the roof vents. Our solution was to install four 1000N gas springs and four 1000N digitally encoded actuators, which ensured the vents lifted equally and squarely on the dolphin structural supports. We refurbished the 10no roof vents rebuilding them in the atrium this took four weeks per vent to refurbish, the total job took over forty weeks to complete.

We redesigned the way the vents would work using 4no 1000N gas springs, 4no 1000N special coded actuators and 2no special limit switches per vent. We installed 10no Shevtec control panels to drive the vents.
