ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- With experience in installing and maintaining smoke ventilation systems from various manufacturers, you will work closely with lead engineers to ensure installations are delivered to a high standard, on time, and in accordance with design specifications. Formal electrical qualifications are not essential for this role, but you must be confident in working on-site, have a strong understanding of smoke control products, and be able to follow technical drawings and instructions.
- You will maintain a health and safety–conscious mindset at all times and confidently feed back to management
on any opportunities to improve processes or resolve issues. - Work with lead engineers to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Communicate effectively with customers and colleagues to maintain the reputation of FTG Ltd.
- Be willing to travel primarily within London and the South East, and across the UK where required, including periodic stop-overs and overtime.
- Carry out installation activities on smoke ventilation systems in line with manufacturer guidance and applicable standards.
- Use FTG company software to record works completed, raise and communicate quote requirements, and provide supporting photos/notes.
DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY AND H&S POWERS
- Stop works: authorised to stop works under your control where unsafe conditions, non-conformances, or quality issues are identified that could compromise safety, compliance, or system performance. Works may resume once the issue is rectified or an agreed mitigation is in place.
- Right to refuse unsafe work: empowered to refuse to carry out any task where health and safety may be compromised, and to instruct team members accordingly.
- Reporting: required to notify the FTG lead engineer/Project Manager promptly and record any stop-work or refusal decisions in company systems.
MAIN DUTIES
- Ensure all work complies with current standards and guidance.
- Install a wide range of smoke ventilation products from various manufacturers.
- Work on large or small installations, following the correct design and standards as per provided drawings.
- Coordinate with other trades and adapt to project changes to ensure successful delivery.
- Assist commissioning engineers with the commissioning of systems where required.
- Take personal responsibility for your development within a company offering a clear development path.
- Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and roadworthiness of the company vehicle in line with policy.
- Exercise delegated authority to stop works or refuse unsafe work when required, recording and escalating actions as per FTG procedures.
- Carry out any other reasonable requests from FTG management.
JOB SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Formal electrical qualifications are not essential for this role. You must be able to demonstrate experience in installing smoke ventilation systems and working on construction sites safely and effectively.
- Essential:
- Current, full clean driving licence.
- Experience installing smoke ventilation systems.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of health & safety requirements for site work.
- Desirable:
- Rooftop Safety/Work Restraint training (e.g. SpanSet).
- PASMA (Towers).
- IPAF (Mobile Vertical (3a), Mobile Boom (3b)).
- Working knowledge of Approved Document B; BS EN 12101; BS 9999; BS 9991 & BS 7346 pt 8.
- Familiarity with multiple manufacturer equipment e.g. Colt, SCS, FDS & SE Controls.
